What to expect
Initial contact
The first step will be to contact me - either by phone, or email, or by using the Contact Me box.
I will then phone you back at a convenient time, to discuss what you are looking for and to see if I can help. This call will take approximately 10 minutes.
If appropriate, I would then invite you to my consulting room for an initial session. This will give you a flavour of how I work, and will give me a more detailed picture of what you are looking for in therapy.
I offer open-ended therapy, and therefore if you decide to come back we will discuss your goals. I will also ask you to fill out a simple form (with contact details etc), provide you with information about data protection: how I store and use personal information (GDPR) and discuss a working agreement with you.
Sessions
Your session will take place in this room.
Each session will be 60 minutes long. Many counsellors only offer 50 minutes but I believe a full hour works better therapeutically. The sessions will generally take place every week, at the same time and on the same day. As I work with an open-ended time frame, it will be up to you how many sessions you come for.
Some clients are only looking for 4 to 6 sessions. Others will stay in therapy for much longer, depending on the issues they want to explore. I would review the work with you every so often, to see how you are feeling about the direction of the work.
Confidentiality
Our work will be confidential, including initial contact that I have with you. In rare circumstances, I may be bound by the ethical code of my professional body (the BACP) to contact your doctor or another healthcare professional. This would only happen if I was concerned about your welfare, and would always be discussed with you first.
Fees
My standard fee is £65 per session
I currently have a small number of evening slots (5pm onwards) which cost £70 per session. Sessions can be cancelled in advance, but if a session is cancelled with less that 48 hours’ notice, I will charge the full fee.
